Parikanniemi's Children Home

Parikanniemi Children Home is "Christian-spirit" children home for 25 children in Ristiina, Finland. The home takes care of 0 to 21 year old children and youngsters who have different kind of reasons for not having the change to live with their parents. At the moment the youngest child is 7 and the oldest 20 years old. Children come from many areas of Finland. At the moment most of the childrens are from Finland´s capital area. Typical reasons for children to end up to Parikanniemi is their parent´s alcohol -and mental health problems and also criminality and other non-social behaviour. Also child´s own problems can be the reason for staying in Parikanniemi. Parikanniemi Children Home was started at 1915 in Uukuniemi, Finland and it was located there until year 1944 when Russia conquered east part of Finland and part of Uukuniemi stayed under its reich. Since 1949 the Parikanniemi Children home has been located in Ristiina and during these years it has given the "real home" for over 1000 children and youngsters.
